Classic Suedes:
A production of selected, young calf skins with a luxurious silky suede side and a natural full grain, aniline reverse. Primarily intended as a suede, the grain side should be used as a trim. The handle of Janus is a touch firmer than soft.

Unique in the market, C.F. Stead’s trademark pure white “buck” suede. Both the grain and flesh side can be used.
At the forefront of sustainable suedes, Steads’ Eco-Buck tannage is metal free and the hides are sourced locally in the UK from grass fed stock, which are considered to be approaching carbon neutral taking consideration of the grassland’s ability to capture and store carbon. A fine-napped suede which offers a renewable, sustainable, versatile yet beautiful material. Suitable for footwear and leathergoods.

Waxy Commander uses C.F. Stead’s proprietary tannage, which is designed to shrink the fibre structure by up to 25%, in order to create a unique appearance after impregnation of a blend of natural waxes. The tight fibre structure prevents any ‘opening’ or stretching (e.g. when lasted) and Stead’s traditional, rich dyeings work with the waxes during wear, to produce a wonderful combination of natural texture and colour.

Flesh-Out Leathers:
This C.F. Stead leather, finished on the flesh-side, includes an antique contrast applied by hand, beneath a blend of natural waxes for a unique natural ‘marbled’ aesthetic. The antique colors are blended to compliment the base dying for an authentic rugged leather with depth of color and texture.

C.F. Stead’s Crazy Cow is considered a ‘flesh-out’ article, meaning the underside is sueded and the leather can be used grain side out or suede side out. Crazy Cow has real character with intense pull-up and deep highs and lows of color. It features a wax impregnation and top coat giving this leather a little bit of shine on the grain. Crazy Cow is a very versatile leather and can be used from anything from watch straps to bags to boots. This article may come with small holes.

This long-fibred suede leather owes its inspiration to the intense fashion interest in colour and texture. The result is a mellow but chunky, casual suede, which is rough without being “hairy”, and which is ideal for use in unlined, unstructured, natural footwear, bags and leather goods.

Mohawk is a “flesh-out” suede, tanned in order to highlight the natural vein marks on the reverse side of the skin. Smooth Waxy Mohawk is a comfortable and chunky casual leather, with a wax impregnation to further enhance the natural textures of the leather.

Antelope, Elk & Deer Leathers:
Kudu Waxy uses the skins from southern African antelope living wild in the bush obtained from seasonal licensed culls to control numbers. Unlike the Kudu Reverse, the Kudu Waxy is intended for use on the grain, which is treated with a full wax impregnation, making a feature of the natural grain blemishes.

The Kudu Classic offers a more formal version of the Kudu than the casual Kudu Waxy. Whilst still featuring the interesting blemishes of the Kudu skin, the grain is more pronounced and provides a more classic gloss finish than the matte finish of the Kudu Waxy.
